Aligning with God's 21st century moves
I’ll get the record straight here, I really couldn’t listen all of Rev. Gary Edmonds message! It was a lil bit late when I got to the church and I seated all the way back in the fellowship hall, so I couldn’t listen very well there, but, I did listen what I think it was the main point of the message about Aligning with God’s 21st century moves and his point will definitely be useful as we prepare for our trip. Reverend spoke about a very important point about Matthew 28: 19, here Jesus told us to go to all peoples everywhere and make them disciples, but some Christians have seriously grabbed this verse to do this instead of a main thing that Jesus told us to do ever more times in the Scriptures. I wanna highlight that is not incorrect that the Christians grab this verse to make disciples, but is not the only thing: Jesus told us more times in the Bible to go and follow Him. Both are really important and they complement each other, but the contrast here is that one represents doing something and the other one represent being something, just like the paradigm shift between servants vs. people that serve. To follow Jesus states who we are as persons, and then we act in order from who we are, instead of making disciples only. In other words is not all about making disciples only, but to follow Jesuschrist; that will form us, fill us and determine our character as Christians and will definitely align us with God so much better: the truest preparation we need (It’s nothing against the sessions of preparation Jeff, they are cool and necessary, but indeed the only One who can change our mindset and can prepare ourselves is God!). Let’s remember that the only thing that Jesus wants from us is our hearts. I speak for the team by saying that we are definitely committed to follow Him!

Josue -
I'm a little late getting to your blog - but I told my friend Jeff that I would check out your postings. He told me that you were a deep thinker - and I think he's right! You've got some good mature reflections here, so you're not going to make it easy on me to digest it! That's great.
So far for what I've read, I'm most excited about your explanation of what it means to go on this trip because you are servants in Christ's name, not just to serve. And I appreciate what you said here in this post that the 2nd represents doing something, but the first, becoming servants, really means you are being or *becoming* something, or better yet, someone.
I remember going on a short mission trip in 2002 - to Panama, of all places! - to help out translating with a medical missions team. The week later, another team from our area near Chicago came down to do construction work. Honestly, some of these men on the 2nd trip were probably not dedicated Christians; they were more excited about going and doing good things for people in a far away land. But when they got to Panama, sadly most of their tools and supplies didn't arrive with them on the plane, and they were just sitting there with no work to do. I understand how they were very frustrated, but it also exposed the motives of a lot of the men. They came to "serve" - at least, to do some "good things" that they thought would make a big difference. They didn't necessarily go to be servants, and when their plans to serve were taken away, they just sat around angry for days and visited the local bars. I don't recommend doing this for you and your team!
It does raise this question, though, for you. I'm sure you have plans for your serving in Peru, but what would you do as servants if your plans for serving were unexpectedly changed or made impossible in some way? How would you still find a way to be a servant?
I look forward to read more of your blog and offering my feedback on what you've written. I hope it might be helpful in some way. I'll look forward to praying for you and your team and the opportunities you'll have to be Christ's co-workers, and servants, in Peru.
